At Submarine we predominantly look for dramas inspired by true stories or events that have been criminally overlooked and demand to be fictionalized.

This aspect of our mandates traces back to Submarine's roots as a documentary production company in the Netherlands and our founder, Femke Wolting's, background as an Emmy-winning documentary producer.

We like true stories that are crime adjacent, thrilling, with a global element, a good example of this is our upcoming series THE KOLLECTIVE, which is based on Submarine's documentary BELLINGCAT: TRUTH IN A POST_TRUTH WORLD and tells a fictional, elevated version of how this investigative group got together and how they become embroiled in an international conspiracy.

These true stories need to say something about the world today.

In terms of other content, we like Euro-centric crime content that can sell well in the smaller territories but also expand to a wider canvas, we currently have a greenlit series from American showrunner Mark Williams (OZARK), titled SAFE HARBOR, that tells the tale of two young Dutch/UK hackers who find themselves in business with the Irish Mafia who are trying to control the Rotterdam ports. 

We are also interested in grounded Sci-Fi or speculative stories, looking at how technology can impact our lives and future events.

We are very keen to find more thriller series to put on our slate. These can be domestic or include surprising genre-mash-ups that make the thriller engine stand out from this crowded space.
